The Netherlands has had a public broadcasting system since the 1920s. Programmes are provided by seven broadcasting associations, each of which has a specific religious, ideological or cultural point of view. Public broadcasting is funded from public revenue and from advertising. The Netherlands has three national television channels and five radio stations. Commercial broadcasting was first introduced in 1992.
